I get a lot of older books for the purpose of BookCrossing, and I usually leaf through them even if I don't plan to read them myself.Many of them are fleamarket books, so I have no idea about the previous owners.
This is a letter I discovered in a book published in 1968. The letter must have spent all those years hidden right there - tucked in between the last page and the book's cover - because there's a white rectangular spot right there while all around it the book's cover already acquired the yellowish tinge of old paper.
